Step 5: Improve Your Landings
Landing are one of the most challenging parts of flying for most student pilots and some private pilots. My landings were rather inconsistent back when I was a private pilot and I can remember embarrassing myself a few times with a lousy landing. Here's a tip that helped me to improve my landings and might help you as well: Split the landing into three steps. 1) The approach, 2) The level off, 3) The flare. By including the level off prior to the flare you reduce the likelihood of ballooning.
Another important thing to remember regarding landings is the proper use of the rudder and ailerons. Use the rudder to keep the nose pointed straight down the runway during the approach and landing. Use the ailerons to adjust for any wind drift and keep the runway centerline right between your feet.
In the video course that follows you will see what all of this looks like from the cockpit perspective.
